Admark Polycoats Phenalkamines are based on cashew nutshell liquid (CNSL), a natural, non-food chain, and renewable biomaterial. CNSL is a reddish brown viscous liquid extracted from the soft honeycomb structure inside the cashew nutshell.
CNSL is decarboxylated and distilled to yield high purity Cardanol, a highly desirable alkylphenolic compound used in the coatings and adhesive industries. Cardanol is used as a primary building block for Admark Polycoats epoxy curing agents and epoxy diluents and modifiers.
The product obtained by Mannich reaction of Cardanol, formaldehyde, and certain amines is called a Phenalkamine. Phenalkamines share similar advantages like other Mannich based curing agents, such as: extremely fast cure, low temperature cure (even below 0°C), good chemical resistance, good moisture tolerance, and non-blushing properties. The fast and low temperature cure properties of Phenalkamines have several benefits for coating formulations. Fast cure also means protected surfaces can be re-coated or returned to service in a short period.
In forced cure industrial coating applications, Phenalkamines can help to save energy by lowering oven cure temperatures or increasing production line speeds.
With over a decade of research, Admark has developed new products in Phenalkamine technology such as high solid or innovative solvent-free, low viscosity, and fast curing epoxy hardeners.
Low Viscosity Phenalkamines
Suitable for making high solids and solvent free coatings.
Benzyl alcohol and Nonyl Phenol free hardeners for epoxy coatings.
Suitable for applications: Structural steel and concrete primers.
Applications: Potable water pipe coating, tanks.
For Better Handling low viscosity Phenalkamines is preferred.
High solids, VOC Free Phenalkamines
100 % Solids, VOC free Phenalkamines are preferred for excellent workability.
Very fast drying properties. Ideal for applications where a fast return to service is required.
Most suitable for low temperature cure.
Excellent anticorrosive properties. Suitable for concrete primers on damp surfaces.
